Working in partnership, the Scottish Government, NHS Education for Scotland, Scottish Social Services Council, Scottish Public Services Ombudsman, the Care Inspectorate and Healthcare Improvement Scotland are delivering four conferences across the country for all relevant health and social care staff including independent contractors and care providers.

The focus of the events is to provide staff with the skills, knowledge and confidence to implement the model Complaints Handling Pr ocedures for the NHS and Social Work which were introduced in April 2017, as well as understand the social care complaints process. The events will also enable staff to prepare themselves and their teams for the introduction of the new Duty of Candour, which will come into force on 1 April 2018.

These free events will run from 9.30 - 4.30 and will be held in the following locations:

20 February 2018 - BT Murrayfield Stadium Edinburgh

21 February 2018 - DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Aberdeen Treetops

8 March 2018 - Crieff Hydro, Crieff

21 March 2018 - DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Glasgow Central

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of colleagues across health and social care. In the morning, there will be a range of presentations, including a keynote address from the Scottish Government. In addition, there will be a series of interactive workshops which will provide you with the information and tools you need to meet the requirements of the model Complaints Handling Procedures in health and social work as well as understand the social care complaints process and hear about the experiences of some organisations in implementing the new procedures.

In the afternoon, we will hear from the Scottish Government about the Duty of Candour and what this means f or health and social care. There will be an experiential session on having difficult conversations and we will also hear about the Science of Sorry, the legal perspectives as well as the experience of implementing Duty of Candour south of the border. This session will help participants to understand their roles and responsibilities in relation to the Duty of Candour which applies to all health and social care staff in Scotland.

PLEASE NOTE: The events are split into morning and afternoon sessions with the morning focusing on feedback and complaints and the afternoon focusing on Duty of Candour. You may register for EITHER morning, afternoon OR both sessions.
