Details

The Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan outlines 29 actions the government, Ofgem and industry will take to:

  • remove barriers to smart technologies (such as storage)
  • enable smart homes and businesses
  • improve access to energy markets for new technologies and business models

These actions are designed to support clean growth, reduce the costs of the energy system, and help keep energy bills low for consumers.

See the related call for evidence which includes the response from government and Ofgem.

Progress update

This document provides an update on progress against the actions in the Plan since its publication. It also sets out the government and Ofgem’s forward priorities in this area, which includes 9 new actions beyond those set out in the original Plan. One of these actions is to set up an Energy Data Taskforce.

We’re seeking views around how our energy system could be smarter and more flexible. If you would like to suggest other areas we should focus on, or to comment on our priorities, please respond to the questions contained in the Progress Update.

Please send your response to: smartenergy@beis.gov.uk and flexibility@ofgem.gov.uk by 14 January 2019.
